A fresh and spicy malbec with plenty of currants, red cherries and a hint of black olives. Linear and juicy on the palate with a medium body and a flavorful, fruity finish. Sleek tannins thread through it all.

Subtle aromas of cinnamon, black and red fruit form an attractive bouquet. This is a smooth wine, with a desirable tannin structure. Mulberry and blackberry flavors are enhanced by a touch of oak spices and extend into an enjoyable finish. A classic Malbec at an affordable price that will pair perfectly with grilled meats.

Tasting the 2022 Crios Malbec next to the new organic one, it was easy to see how this wine from the Valle de Uco (from Los Chacayes, Vista Flores, Los Arboles and Gualtallary Sur) is subtler and has a different point of balance despite having very similar parameters. Here, 40% of the volume spends eight months in used French oak barrels, but there is no aromatic influence of the elevage. It's fresh, balanced and juicy but with a little more austerity and fine-grained tannins. Clean, approachable and tasty.

Crios is a family-owned brand by Susana Balbo, Argentina’s leading and most innovative winemaker. Crios in Spanish means “offspring” and was created by Susana as a tribute to her son, Jose´, and daughter, Ana. Nowadays, Susana’s children have joined the family business and add their young-adult point of view to the wines that are dedicated to their family bond.

Crios wines are harvested from specific areas in Mendoza and Salta in Argentina, where grapes are optimal for the fruit-forward style of Crios. Contrary to many entry level brands, Crios wines have a background, a story behind. Each wine carries an inspirational message that also represents either a milestone in Susana’s personal and professional life or the story about how the wine was made. Crios is also the perfect pairing at any meal!

Tasting notes

A fresh, pure expression of the varietal, with aromas of violets, cherries, mocha and spice. Juicy tannins and balanced acidity complement perfectly ripe red fruit flavors, while a subtle hint of oak adds complexity. Pair with tuna, lamb or hamburgers. Produced from 100% Malbec that was aged 9 months in 100% French oak.
