Estate

Alto Tierruca is a label under Vinedos Marchigue. It is the name of one of the beautiful vineyards located on the coast of the Colchagua Valley, surrounded by forests of fresh pine trees and receives the fresh breeze of the Pacific Ocean. Alto Tierruca is a lively expression of the land from which it comes and the influence of the cold coastal breeze.

Established in 1992 and with over 2,500 hectares of notable vineyards in the premium Colchagua and Curicó valleys, the carefully tended vines across this vast testate comprise 14 different grape varieties. The Errazuriz Ovalle family are not only carrying on the family tradition, but contributing to the industrial progress of Chile by transforming what was previously an area of low commercial value into a thriving community and source of work for thousands of people. In a country well known for the flavor purity of its wines, Errázuriz Ovalle aims to make wines that sing of their grape variety.

This varietal precision, along with the wines’ outstanding freshness and modest alcohols (a factor of Errázuriz Ovalle’s extensive vineyard holdings in Colchagua’s Pacific-cooled coastal hills), show exactly why we were drawn to Errázuriz Ovalle. The valleys are said to have been blessed with near perfect conditions for winemaking, allowing for a viticultural approach where organic techniques are available at every level and wine that shows incredibly pure varietal characteristics. Consistently high quality wines are able to be produced year after year, making wine from this part of the world extraordinarily good value for money.

Tasting notes

Fruits like limes and p ink g rapefruit open up into floral notes with subtle fennel and freshly cutted touch. Rich flavours of lime in balance with fresh acidity are present in this well-balanced wine. Mineral notes resonate into the long finish.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand, in the early morning end of February and the first week of March. In the winery, the grapes are stemmed and macerated in cold for 4 to 6 hours, thus removing the greatest amount of aromatic precursors. The fermentation takes place in tank s of stainless steel at controlled temperatures between 13 -15 Celsius for 20 days. After fermentation the wine is clarified and mixed to be bottled soon.
