This is so good! I want to drink it now. Iodine, mushrooms, dark fruit and orange peel on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, yet polished and fresh. Lovely tension A blend of 80 per cent merlot, 15 per cent cabernet franc and five per cent malbec.

This has a good juicy core of red currant and damson plum fruit flecked with mouthwatering savory and tobacco notes through the finish.

Soils: Clay-limestone on limestone rock with clay and marl
Soil management: Traditional: light ploughing and aeration of the soil with inter-row planting of cereals in the winter.

Vinification

Temperature controlled tanks.
Lees stirring after completion of malolactic fermentation
Micro-oxygenation if necessary
Reductive aging on lees: 1st racking after 6 to 10 months (before the summer), 2nd racking 1 year later before bottling.

Tanks: Stainless steel tanks
Length of aging: 12 –16 months in barrel

History

The property was acquired by George Thienpont in 1946 and he subsequently replanted it with vines towards the end of the 1970’s. Since 1983 his son, Nicolas, has been responsible for the winemaking. Chateau Puygueraud has since become the benchmark wine for the Cotes de Francs and a reference for the renewal of this still little-known appellation.
