Description
This is the second label of Chateau Doisy-Vedrines, which was once part of the vast Doisy estate that also included Chateau Doisy-Daene and Chateau Doisy-Dubroca. The original property, founded in 1704 was divided into three parts in 1851. The largest of the Doisy estates, it takes its name from one of its early owners, the Vedrine family. Today it is owned by the Casteja family, who own numerous estates in the Right Bank as well as a massive negociant company, Borie-Manoux. Interestingly, while Doisy-Vedrines is located in Barsac, they use the Sauternes appellation on their label, which is allowed under AOC regulations. Their 75-acre vineyard, however, is in Sauternes and is planted largely to Semillon, with a little Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle, and Sauvignon Gris. This wine, golden in color, shows caramelized citrus on the nose, orange marmalade and honeysuckle; it is sweet but not cloying, with lovely botrytis flavors intermingled.
Tasting notes
Juicy and forward in feel, with corpulent orange blossom, yellow apple, pineapple and apricot flavors backed by a flash of maple on the finish. Drink now through 2028. -Wine Spectator
