Reviews
Decanter 90
Fragranced with blackcurrants and bramble fruit on the nose. This is characterful with personality brimming with chalky strawberries, raspberries, plums and black cherries and a soft grip from fine tannins. It has a touch of liquorice spice and slight heat still on the finish but these give a nice piquance to the wine and will settle over time. Smooth with a round and bright mouthfeel.

James Suckling 90
Aromas of plums, vanilla and pie crust follow through to a medium body with firm, fine tannins and a polished finish. Merlot and cabernet franc. Try after 2023.

Description
CHÂTEAU DE BARBE BLANCHE was acquired for an half in 2000 by André Lurton. This estate is ideally situated on a ridge of clay and limestone in Lussac, facing the best slopes of St Emilion. Here Merlot is king, and is expertly used to give soft and layered complexity to the wines.
History
ANDRÉ LURTON is the company’s founder, for almost 70 years he dedicated his life to his vines, as only a man born in a wine chateau could do. Jacques Lurton now runs the family estates; he was nominated president of the group by his family in June 2019. His vast winemaking experience around the world over 30 years, has given him inspired and creative vision which he now transmits to the Vignobles Andre Lurton.
Tasting notes
Brilliant, very dark ruby red color with beautiful purplish highlights. Powerful, rich and spicy bouquet of ripe red and black fruit (cherry, blackcurrant), as well as a touch of vanilla. The wine starts out very round on the palate. It is full-bodied, rich, powerful and in no way heavy. The tannins are quite smooth. The freshness and spiciness of the nose come through in the flavor. The wine is altogether beautifully balanced and elegant. Ideal with duck or lamb.
