Medium- to full-bodied red with depth and complexity. Layers of fine, creamy tannins and compact structure. Meaty and racy with a lingering finish. Pure dark fruit with hints of chocolate.

The 2022 Chateau de Sales was tasted from a sample sent to the UK following my visit to Bordeaux. Based on this sample, it is the best primeur showing that I have encountered from the largest estate in Pomerol. Quite plush with crushed strawberry and black plum on the nose, it becomes floral with time. Iris and violet petal aromatics seem fuller and ampler than recent previous vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins that frame black plummy fruit laced with black truffle and cracked black pepper. While not as complex as those Pomerol chateau blessed with terroirs on the gravel plateau, this is a well-balanced, fruit-driven, sensual Chateau de Sales that should drink well after four to six years.

A strong effort from this large Pomerol property, the 2022 De Sales offers up aromas of red fruits, plums and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy palate that's ample, layered and velvety, exhibiting a touch more concentration than is habitual at this address without compromising the elegant house style.

This estate, largely known for Pomerol, has produced a firm and structured wine. Its black Merlot fruits give it weight and power while the black-plum flavors create a core of solid tannins.
