Reviews
James Suckling 90
Plenty of ripe plums, cherries, chili chocolate and a touch of spices. Elegant and composed with a medium body, soft tannins and a fluid, light finish. Not intense, but well defined for the vintage.

Description
Family owned and produced since its founding in 1894, the property is located in the heart of the Saint-Émilion region and listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Château Piney has belonged to the same family for 5 generations. Since 2016, siblings Etienne Laveau and his sister Blandine Bénédetti have managed the operations with a very environmental and sustainable approach. The farm received its Organic certification in 2017.
The estate is 26 acres on ancient sandy-clay soils and planted to 59% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec. The grapes for Château Piney benefit from gravity vatting in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks, thus optimally preserving the quality of the grapes. Fermentation lasts 20 to 30 days. The final wine is then aged in barrels between 12 and 18 months. The percentage of new barrels may vary depending on the quality of the vintages and the power of the wine.
Tasting notes
A small, under-the-radar Bordeaux, this excellent value shows a deep ruby color enhanced by aromas of tobacco, cedar, leather and blueberries. Dry, with firm tannins, the palate provides flavors of dark berries, mocha, and leather. Very enjoyable and excellent at this price point.
