Wine Spectator 95

This is subtle and complex, showing blackberry, fresh tobacco and light vanilla, with a hint of Indian spices. Full-bodied, with super well-integrated tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Refined and classy. The best modern wine from this producer. Best after 2015. 10,000 cases made.

Wine Advocate 90?

Tasted at the Chateau Figeac vertical at the property. While I enjoy the 2005 Figeac, there is still a sense of a potential great Saint Emilion falling short of what it could have been. Now with ten years on the clock, the nose is cool and focused, very Pauillac-like in style, the Cabernet Sauvignon driving it along. With time it begins to open up and loosen its tie, revealing a pleasing licorice scent. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasurable, supple, fleshy entry. It seems to offer black rather than red fruit at the moment, the acidity well judged. So why the parsimonious score? Well, it doesn't build on this promise, as if it runs out of ideas two-thirds of the way through. It takes the easy option and declines to offer that tension and complexity on the finish that certainly the aromatics deserve.

Estate

Chateau FIGEAC is a family-owned estate covering 54 hectares (133 acres), of which 40 (99 acres) are dedicated to vine-growing. Located to the west of Saint-Emilion, close to the boundaries of Pomerol, its 3 mounds of Güntzian gravel give the vineyard its identity and its grape variety composition.

Tasting notes

Harmonious and elegant, FIGEAC reveals lovely balance even in its youth. Its long ageing potential is one of the greatest of all the top Bordeaux growths.

Vinification

The making of this great wine begins with painstaking work in the vines which adheres to the principles of environmentally-friendly integrated crop management to produce grapes of great complexity that mirror the amazing terroir of FIGEAC.
The wine-making methods allow the grapes to express elegance in the wine.
