Product Ratings
Wine Advocate 89pt

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, this classic, austerely-styled Medoc exhibits medium to full body, true breed as well as class, and excellent aromas of subtle herbs, cedar, cassis, and new wood. Rich, medium to full-bodied, sweet on the attack, and moderately tannic, it will benefit from 4-5 more years of cellaring.

Wine Spectator 90pt

Dark color, with a ripe blackberry character and hints of minerals. Medium- to full-bodied, with lovely, integrated tannins and velvety, round mouthfeel. Lovely now.--'88'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008).

Vinification

Alcoholic fermentation: Pumping-over twice a day during the fermentation.
Maceration: Merlot : 6 to 10 days of fermentation (a bit longer for the cabernets). Merlot vats were maintained at 30° for 8 days during the maceration.
Cuvaisons (alcoholic fermentation + maceration): Merlot : 18 to 22 days Cabernet Sauvignon : 20 to 26 days.
Malolactic fermentation: Running off at 25° for the malolactic fermentations. 10% of these fermentations in new barrels for the Grand Vin.
Ageing: 75% new barrels - All wines in barrels by the end of November.

Weather conditions

After a mild and rainy winter, the bud burst is noted by the end of March. Spring is wet but the good weather conditions during May and June give a quick and homogeneous flowering. July is warm and cloudy and the crop seemed to be generous. As far as August is concerned, the weather was extremely hot thus giving an exceptionally high concentration of tannins with smell berries, reducing the volume. The first two weeks of September were rainy but nice weather came back for the last two weeks which enhanced the grapes maturity.

Harvest

Harvest took place between showers but did not affect at all the quality of the vintage. Merlot : on September 24/25/26 (young vines) - From 28th to 30th Cabernet Sauvignon : from October 3rd to 8th Cabernet Franc : on October 4th Petit Verdot : on September 26th (young vines)
