Vinous Media 91+pt

Dark ruby-red. Ripe blackcurrant aromas and flavors are lifted by pungent graphite, cedar and mineral notes. Balanced, pure and smooth in the mouth, with excellent perfume and precision. Finishes long and pure, with lingering cassis and leather notes. This is another Lynch-Bages that has picked up volume and flesh from bottle aging.

The vine

After a mild winter, the vine has a week earlier than normal. The second half of June, July and early August are very dry, but with very average temperatures. Temperatures rise in early August to become scorching. In early September, the rain is expected to start the process of maturation, and 2, 3 and 4 September, the region has beneficial rain for thirsty vines. Then the weather cleared, and ideal conditions of 13 to 20 September come to perfect maturity. More unsettled weather with frequent passages rainy then moved during the last days of September and the first ten days of October.

Characteristic of the vintage

Characteristic of the vintage: Lynch-Bages 1998 is characterized by a fairly firm tannic structure and sustained by a fresh acidity. This is a wine built for long aging.
