James Suckling 98pt

Stunning aromas of fresh flowers, with blueberries, blackberries and currants that follow through to a full body, with super balance and finesse. The tannins are super polished. Such class here. Best ever from here. From biodynamically grown grapes.

Wine Advocate 100pt

Deep garnet in color, the 2009 Pontet-Canet slips sensuously from the glass with opulent scents of creme de cassis, baked plums and Black Forest cake plus suggestions of Chinese five spice, potpourri, oolong tea and menthol. Full-bodied, rich, spicy and oh-so-decadent in the mouth, it has a fantastically velvety frame and seamless freshness, finishing very long.

Wine Enthusiast 99pt

A superb wine, with the purest fruit, great freshness and ripeness. It is certainly structured with dry tannins, but the blackcurrant freshness is all there. The wine has a great limpid, flowing feel, but also power.

Wine Spectator 96pt

This is amazingly expressive now considering how huge it is, with stunning espresso and warm fig confiture aromas followed by lush layer after layer of blackberry paste, cassis and plum sauce. A terrific loam underpinning strides in on the finish, which is weighty but sports serious cut. Equal parts fruit and earth.

Harvest

28th September to 15th October

Vintage

We are learning to understand the terroir, the vines as well as diseases and pests more and more thanks to nature's offering of immense resources that are so little used.
This enables us to help the vine build up a resistance against illness or pests, naturally, without aggression. This was particularly useful at the beginning of the season when frequent rain reminded us of the two previous years.
Then, once the summer began, the sun settled in over the region. The hot weather lasted right up until harvest time, giving us high hopes for the vintage to come.
Our animal traction project continued to develop. It required a lot of thought and a sincere long-term vision. The first results are already evident and go beyond our expectations as the soil very quickly rewards us when we show it respect.
Under perfect weather conditions, the harvest began on the 28th of September and continued under a permanent sunshine and hot temperatures, finishing on the 15th of October.

Tasting notes

Deep purple colour.
The exceptionally complex nose is dominated by fruits such as blackcurrant and a very noticeable graphite presence. A flowery touch of violets adds extra elegance.
In the mouth, the attack is yet powerful and contained. The high in tannins, long and highly refined structure is accentuated by a refreshing acidity.
A great Pontet-Canet!
