The 2014 Magrez-Fombrauge is plump, juicy and absolutely delicious. Blueberry jam, plum, mocha, sweet French oak, lavender and sweet spice notes open up effortlessly. Forward, open-knit and flamboyant in style, the 2014 will drink well right out of the gate. There is plenty to like, that much is certain

The 2014 Magrez-Fombrauge still has that rich, almost creamy-scented bouquet, opulent and ravishing yet missing some of the precision and terroir expression of its peers. The palate is candied and sweet on the entry with coconut-tinged red fruit, well-judged acidity and decent tension on the finish. Yet there is no question in my mind that the oak is too dominant, rending this an admittedly seductive yet oddly monotone Saint Emilion, just as I found it in barrel.

Frankly toasted, delivering a hefty dose of warm ganache and melted black licorice notes around the core of warmed fig and blackberry compote flavors, this still shows some energy, with lively tobacco and singed apple wood streaks on the finish. Should stretch out with modest cellaring.
