Product Ratings
James Suckling 95+pt

On the nose there’s an explosion of pure fruit from blackberries to currants, and vanilla too. This is still a little baby. Full and dense with chewy tannins. Big and rich, but very balanced.

Wine Advocate 98pt

Having retreated into its shell, the deep garnet colored 2009 Léoville Poyferré gives up slowly revealing notions of cigar boxes, pencil lead, charcoal, rose hip tea and fragrant earth with a core of preserved plums, crème de cassis, espresso and Indian spices. Full, rich, seductive and voluptuously fruited in the mouth, the palate features firm yet beautifully velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and spicy.

Wine Enthusiast 96pt

An immensely structured wine, packed with dark tannins promising aging potential. It is complex, powerful, layered with new wood and concentration, finishing with dark plum fruits and acidity.

Wine Spectator 93pt

Solid notes of steeped black currant, ganache-coated fig and plum eau de vie pump along in this very dark red, but with well-integrated structure. Long and winey through the finish, with the grip extending everything nicely.

Tasting notes

Colour: Intense, dark robe.
Nose: complex and elegant. Empyreumatic with black fruit and spicy notes.
Attack: Nice and frank.
Palate: Great amplitude in the mouth. Ripe, silky, elegant tannins on the finish. Smooth and opulent. Pleasantly lingering aromatic finish.
2009, a vintage full of sunshine.

Vintage

The vine is an extraordinary plant with the natural capacity to adapt to weather changes and rising temperatures. Since 2001, the beautiful Indian summers, along with the absence of rainfall during the equinoxes, have allowed the Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen perfectly. Is this Bordeaux's answer to global warming?
