Tasting notes
A beautiful blend of 45% Pinot Noir from the Côte des Bar, 30% Pinot Meunier from the Marne Valley, and 25% Chardonnay from Sézannais. The sublime color is a pale yellow with a beautiful effervescence. The nose is delicate with white fruit notes and some citrus (lemon) aromas. The vivacity is superb with a chalky last impression and a subtle balance. Pairs perfectly with an aperitif or a fine meal.
Description
Epernay is unofficially known as the ‘Capital of Champagne’ thanks to its abundance of Champagne Houses, it is located in the heart of the vineyards. It lies on the left bank of the Marne River, 17 miles (27 km) south-southwest of Reims. Epernay is the main center for bottling, storing, and selling the wines of the Champagne region. Most of the town is built on chalk rock, in which numerous tunnels more than 30 miles (48 km) long have been cut for storing the wine. The vineyards in the Epernay commune are located on the hills that flank the town on the western and eastern side and are to a large extent planted with Chardonnay. The Champagne terroir has two major distinguishing features: northerly latitude and a dual climate that is subject to oceanic and continental influences alike. Another key feature of the Champagne terroir is its predominantly limestone subsoil, which keeps the vines naturally watered all year round. The undulating to moderately steep terrain in Champagne creates ideal vineyard sites,
combining good drainage with optimum exposure to the sun.
