Product Ratings
Jeb Dunnuck 91pt

The 2019 Cotes Du Roussillon Villages Constance is slightly more fresh and vibrant, with more black raspberry fruit as well as notes of chalky minerality, ground pepper, garrigue, and sandalwood. It too has a savory, nicely structured style on the palate, with notable tannins, and is going to evolve for 5-7 years. It's a solid step up over the 2018.

James Suckling 90pt

A fruity red with sweet cherries, red plums, dried spices and a hint of coffee on the nose. Medium-bodied with firm tannins. Structured, but has good fruit to support the tannins. Spicy finish. Drink now.

Wine Advocate 90pt

The entry-level offering, the tank-aged 2019 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Constance is a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Carignan. Marked by scents of green peppercorns, blackberries and raspberries, it's full-bodied, rich and velvety, with ample length on the finish. For $15, it's a steal.

Vinification

The vineyard consists on vines with an average age of 4-40 years. The grapes are hand-picked and then hand sorted at the winery. This wine was very traditionally produced without fining or filtration. It was aged for 16 months in concrete vats.

Description

Visiting Roussillon in 2000, Jean-Luc Thunevin discovered its wonderful terroirs and was seduced by the region. At the same time, he met Jean-Roger Calvet, a local winemaker. They decide to buy a few acres of vineyards together and found the Domaine Thunevin-Calvet, located in Maury on beautiful terroirs of black schists. Their first vintage was produced in 2001. Cuvée Constance is dedicated to Jean-Roger’s daughter.

Ageing

14 months in concrete vats.
