Tasting notes
Its violet purple color is followed by aromas of black raspberry, roasted spices and blackcurrant. The palate oscillates between the full-bodied power and fruit with an elegant finish.
Description
The grapes came into the winery very early in the morning (2 to 8 AM) and were maceration in concrete tanks for 5 weeks for the Syrah and 3.5 weeks for the Grenache. Vinification also takes place in concrete tank. 25% of the Syrah is aged in 228 liters barrels coming from Burgundy oak forests with medium or medium + toast.
Vineyard
The emblematic terroirs of the Languedoc, The Pic St Loup is known for its deep limestone soil (7 meters) which is 130 million old. The South facing vineyards are protected on the north side by a ridge which blocks the extreme wind and rain of the region. The terroir can support the regional heat waves and consistently produce very balanced wines.
Estate
Languedoc is one of the most exciting regions in France right now. Château Puech-Haut is a prestigious estate in the eastern Languedoc producing top quality wines for very reasonable prices. The wines from Puech-Haut are rich and lush but also show the earthy and mineral character of the rocky clay-limestone soils of the region. They benefit from both its proximity to the Mediterranean and the rugged, mountainous interior.
Food pairings
This red pairs well with pasta dishes, braised beef and rich stew recipes.
