Technical Details
Estate
Owned by Chéreau Carré the beautiful Château de la Chesnaie was purchased by the family in the 1960’s. It consists of 49 acres of vines aged between 20 and 50 years. The plants grow on a sunny plateau of schist and mica schist soils, which allows the grapes to ripen earlier which is critical in a cool climate of Muscadet.
Soil
Located on the outskirts of the city of Nantes, despite urban pressures. Due to the local exceptional qualities it is protected by the INAO.
The soil consists of clay mixed with mica for a very good soil warming. The geological situation is changing to a sandy structure due to erosion. The terroir is early, so that the harvest is done in the first days after the harvest ban in Muscadet.
Tasting notes
Clean tasting with crisp acidity and a bright, fresh
minerality. This is an excellent Muscadet, light and
refreshing. Nice nose of apple and citrus with long
lasting aftertaste. Crisp, mineral & brilliant!
Vineyard
The vineyard was planted on a very well exposed plateau. It extends over 10 hectares in Melon de Bourgogne.
Vinification
A pneumatic press can preserve the quality of the juice. Winemaking is exclusively binding. The technique of "stirring" gives the wine more fruit and complexity. It is bottled at the chateau during Spring.
History
Rebuilt in the 20th century in schist from the Nantes area, the Château de la Chesnaie has all the features of typical Renaissance style architecture, which was also used for numerous buildings such as the Dobrée Museum in Nantes.
The castle and farm were separated and the Chéreau-Carré family bought the farm in the 1960s.
