Description

Jean Claude Dagueneau's Domaine des Berthiers is well situated on the hillside of Saint-Andelain in the hamlet of Berthiers, at the heart of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, sourced from select plots of Sauvignon Blanc.

HEV Certified (High Environmental Value): This is the highest level of environmental certification for farms in France. The farm environmental certification is a voluntary approach which aims to identify and promote particularly environmentally friendly practices applied by farmers. HEV covers four key areas: biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategy, management of fertilizer use and management of water.

The vines of Saint-Andelain are monitored with the greatest care throughout the year. At the time of the harvest, full attention is paid to the aromatic and healthy balance of all plots in order to pick the grapes at perfect maturity. The juices are extracted at low pressure before being cold stored for eight days prior to the fermentation to express the terroir complexity. The fermentation is done at low temperatures and is followed by aging on fine lees with a weekly stirring for at least six months until bottling.

Estate

Jean-Claude Dagueneau, the founding father of this Domaine, was an important personality of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. He made his own wines and contributed strongly to making this appellation world-famous, as he dedicated his full knowledge and values to the Domaine. In 1995, the Fournier family acquired the vineyards of Domaine des Berthiers, which previously belonged to Jean-Claude Dagueneau (father of Didier Dagueneau). The Domaine is located in the village of Saint-Andelain and more precisely in the hamlet called Berthiers at the foot of the hill of Saint-Andelain. It benefits from the flint terroir, which is found only in some rare places in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. As a result, the vineyard benefits from well-drained soils and very good exposure, favoring the production of grapes that result in age-worthy and complex wines.
