Wine Advocate 90pt

A blend of 85% Grenache Blanc, 10% Clairette and 5% Bourboulenc, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc les Hauts de Barville exhales aromas of white flowers, pear, citrus and crushed stones. Medium-bodied, tense and supple, it's enveloping and juicy with a harmonious balance and an ethereal, mouthwatering finish. Matured in stainless tanks and for six months in concrete tanks, this is a straightforward Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc.

This wine exudes high-toned aromas of white peach, lilies, orange blossom, and a touch of sea spray. On the palate, it impresses with its complexity, marked by vibrant minerality and striking acidity. It is well-structured and balanced, making it equally enjoyable on its own. Perfect for pairing with creamy cheeses, this wine is ready to be enjoyed now.

Minty herbs, citrus, and crushed stone notes emerge from the 2023 Chateauneuf Du Pape Les Hauts De Barville Blanc, a vibrant, medium-bodied white based on 65% Grenache Blanc, 20% Roussanne, 10% Clairette, and 5% Bourboulenc. It shows the supple, nicely textured, balanced style of the vintage and is well worth buying and drinking over the coming 2-3 years.

Food Pairing

Serve as an aperitif or enjoy with main course salads, crusty seabass and foie gras, lobster in mild spices, roast chicken with crayfish, or with desserts of apple pie or crème caramel.

Vineyard

The appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape is mainly reknown for its red wines. However, it also produces around 6% of whites of equally high quality. “Les Hauts de Barville” is mainly produced from our family estate Domaine Barville, located at the west of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape village. Out of the 15ha, 2.10 ha are planted with white varieties.

Tasting Notes

Color: Straw yellow with golden highlights. Nose: White flowers and white-fleshed stone fruits evolving into notes of buttery hazelnuts. Honey hints develop over ageing. Palate: Mouth-filling and plump with honey and fresh ripe fruits (peach, white currant). Great length with an elegant citrus finish.

Vinification

Once the fruit reaches full maturity it is hand harvested early in the day to keep temperatures low and minimize oxidation. De-stemming followed by a gentle pneumatic press. The juice is cold settled before being fermented over the course of two weeks. There is no malolactic fermentation to preserve the freshness of the final wine. Vinification and maturation is carried out for 6 months in stainless steel vats before bottling in March, April of the year following harvest.
