Reviews
Wine Spectator 93
Dark and winey in profile, with steeped plum and blackberry fruit flavors leading the way, while black tea and mineral accents fill in behind them. Tobacco and garrigue accents dot the finish for added range and length. Really solid. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Best from 2022 through 2035.

Decanter 93
Lovely sense of freshness with a little aniseed core. Full-bodied but not huge. Alcohol is high, and it does feel a little pushed on the palate. Intense vibrancy on the finish however. Very young. 10% new oak, all well integrated.

Deep, ruminating layers of black plum and cherry confiture are lifted by tangs of crushed salt and stone in this bright, fresh-fruited blend of Grenache and Syrah. It's mouthfilling and rich but maintains a thrilling zestiness, too. Fringed by fine-grained, lingering tannins, it's at peak now but should maintain vibrantly through 2027 at least.

Jancis Robinson 16
Tasted blind. Intense nose of dark cocoa and a note of leather and sweet fruit. Chewy palate and rich mouthfeel - intense wine which is closed at the moment - fine tannins are currently swamped by dense covering of ripe fruits.

Robert Parker 92
Brotte's 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hauts de Barville is a bit less floral than the Domaine Barville bottling but just as satisfying, with oodles of cherry fruit, ample weight on the palate and a supple, almost creamy texture. A blend of 70% Grenache and 15% each Mourvedre and Syrah, aged in a variety of vessels, it finishes silky and long.

Technical Details
Description
Having a long history of expertise in the appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Brotte house knows the terroirs of the area very well. Les Hauts de Barville has distinctive richness, in the typical style of the wines from Domaine Barville. Their vineyards sit on the best exposed terroir of pebbles, limestone and sand of the prestigious cru of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The strict selection gives this great wine beautiful concentration and a rich symphony of aromatic notes : red fruits (strawberry mainly), spices, truffles and garrigue. The wine is then aged in a blend of 100 year old large oak casks and new small French oak barrels for one year to develop its signature smoothness and richness of aromas and tannins.
Tasting notes
Ripe mulberry and strawberry notes abound from nose to finish, accented by hints of sweet spice and dried Mediterranean herbs. While rich and plush in body, it has brisk, integrated acidity and finely edged tannins that lend elegant structure.
Vinification
Sustainable viticulture along with de-budding, de-leafing and green harvest limit the yield and increase the quality of this wine. Hand-picking, de-stemming and gentle crushing are followed by a controlled fermentation at 28 Celsius and a 3 to 4-week maceration. Bottling takes place in November, after a year of ageing and a light filtering.
