Product Ratings
Decanter 90pt

Fresh and appealing aromas of honey and flowers. Very full, lush, smooth and quite unctuous, but enjoyably dry and firm. The citrussy acidity combines with noble bitters and textural notes to create a strong presence on the palate. All aged in tank, no oak but regular lees stirring.

Vinification

These vineyard plots are from the legendary pebbles of la Crau and les Serres. After picking and sorting by hand, the harvest is pressed immediately to retain freshness. The fermentation starts after the pressing, at low temperature 16 celsius. No malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine is then bottled shortly after resting to retain all its brightness and aromas.

History

Jean-Pierre Boisson, former long-serving mayor of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, runs Domaine Père Caboche with his children Emily & Nicolas. Members of the Boisson family have been both winemakers and blacksmiths for generations. The family nickname of Caboche derives from the old Provencal word for ‘horseshoe nails’.

Tasting notes

Beautiful bright color with light yellow and green reflections. The nose is very complex and pretty with white flowers, peach and ginger. This wine is unmistakably delicious, with notes of fresh pear at the end. The mouth is smooth and lush with nice aromatics and light peppered notes.

White Châteauneuf-du-Pape is quite rare and represents less than 5% of the appellations production, this refreshing oak-free example is one of the best around!
