Cotes du Rhone Villages "Visan"
Domain surface area
Estate of 52 ha located over 4 villages, Sainte-Cecile-les-Vigne, Suze-la-Rousse, Rochegude and Visan. We produce each year 280,000 bottles of Cotes du Rhone under the above appellations.
Name and origin
It is connected to a place named "Ribagnan" that comes from Ribe which means "small slope, borders" in Provence.
Organic and philosophy
La Grand'Ribe has not used any chemical weed killers in its vineyard for the past decade.
Systemic phyto-sanitary products and penetrating treatments were stopped in 2001. Since then, we have only been using approved organic and eco-friendly products. Vine diseases and noxious plants are treated by natural methods.
The Domain began its official conversion to organic farming under the control of the ECOCERT organism in 2002 and obtained its organic certification. Since 2007, we have also been cetified NOP. Domaine de La Grand'Ribe is part of the only 4 NOP certified vineyard in the Rhone Valley.
In order to preserve the quality of its Terroir, La Grand'Ribe has always been very careful when working the ground.
Terroir characteristics
Sainte Cecile has a rather argil-limestone soil made up of small sandstones and garrigues.
Rochegude has a deeper sandy ground.
Visan has a stony red argil-limestone soil.
Soils bring to each appellation a different complexity.
The Domaine
Family property for more than a century, Jean Claude and Isabel manage La Grand'Ribe out of respect for future generations.
