Jancis Robinson 16.5/20
Peach, spice, cream and a touch of toasty aroma. Thick and richly textured. Lots of extraction on the palate. Syrupy. Sumo white!

Scents of crushed stone and scorched earth mark the nose of the 2017 Saint-Joseph Les Granits Blanc, a pure, barrel-fermented Marsanne offering from the decomposed granite slopes of the Saint-Joseph lieu-dit. Grilled tangerines, hints of bergamot and honey appear on the palate, although the rich, medium to full-bodied wine is clearly dry, with a lingering, citrusy finish.

Pale yellow. Intense, mineral-dominated nectarine, pear nectar, chamomile and fennel qualities on the nose, along with a sexy floral topnote that expands with aeration. Seamless, concentrated and lively on the palate, offering powerful white peach, tangerine, Anjou pear and honeysuckle flavors. Focus and mineral lift are carried through an impressively persistent finish that features suggestions of Meyer lemon and sweet butter.

Estate
With roots dating back to 1808, M. CHAPOUTIER is one of the oldest companies in the Rhône Valley. Yet, its world renown and the quality of wine can truly be accredited to the arrival of Michel Chapoutier in 1990. His willingness to change the set way, thirst for knowledge and open-mindedness, together with his drive to seek, discover and reflect the full potential of our terroirs, letting the soils express their true character, has put our wines firmly on the wine world map. This philosophy is what gives our wines their signature style, forms the basis of the M. CHAPOUTIER ethos and drives our team to reveal the very best of what the soils have to offer.
Tasting notes
The M. Chapoutier Saint-Joseph Blanc Les Granits is a golden yellow color. The nose is slightly mineral with floral touches of honeysuckle and lily. The palate is well balanced and harmonious with subtle spices developing into mellowed honey.
Vinification
Pressing of the whole grapes. Cold settling between 24 and 48 hours. Half of the wine is fermented in vats, the other part in big wooden barrels (600 liters). Ageing takes place on lees from 8 to 10 months, with stirrings. The two parts are blending before bottling.
