The single vineyard 2018 Saint-Peray Lieu Dit Hongrie is up with the creme de la creme of the vintage. White peach, caramelized citrus, orange blossom, and salty minerality all emerge from the glass, and it's rich, medium to full-bodied, and powerful on the palate. Made from 100% Marsanne brought up in 15% new demi-muids.

Marsanne. Tasted blind. Smoke, spice and something a bit saline adding savoury interest. Sufficient acidity to keep the finish crisp.

Translucent yellow. Intense, mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruit qualities on the nose, joined by suggestions of white flowers and fennel that emerge with air. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering powerful pear, tangerine and honeysuckle flavors braced by a spine of smoky minerality. Finishes sappy, minerally and very long, showing no excess fat and a touch of lingering florality.

Bottled just a week before my visit, the 2018 Saint-Peray Lieu-dit Hongrie was already showing off its stuff, bursting with notes of grilled pineapple and citrus. It's medium to full-bodied but crisp and firmly built, with a silky feel on the palate and a lingering, nicely focused finish.
