Technical Details
Estate
After more than 160 years, Ogier has grown to become one of the leading producers in the Rhône Valley. Most of its land holdings are in the Southern Rhône area producing wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Lirac. The Estate also makes small but exceptional bottlings from parcels within the most notable appellations of the Northern Rhône - Crozes-Hermitage and Côte Rôtie. Ogier’s wines are an ode to finesse, elegance and freshness.
Tasting notes
Intense ruby color with subtle flavors of thyme and rosemary (Provençal herbs) on a woody aromatic background- discreet notes of violet and black cherry. Full-bodied, well-balanced with spices and fresh fruits – very elegant tannins.
Vinification
Destemming of Grenache depending on the vintage to keep 15% maximum of non-destemmed grapes – cold pre-fermentation maceration (12°C) during 4 days for the Syrah and Mourvèdre – 2 times of racking during fermentation and long maceration of 21 to 30 days with regular cap-punching and racking if required – Temperature controlled at 26-30°C. – only first juice added.
Description
The terroir includes clay and limestone slopes and alluvial deposits on terraces. The vineyard extends over the two communes of Vacqueyras and Sarrians in the department of Vaucluse, at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, from Vienna to Avignon. Crossed by the Rhone, its appellations are caressed by both the wind and the sun.
Food pairing
Pairs well with Grilled meat, casseroles, and autumn dishes.
