The Bruno Giacosa 2017 Barbaresco Rabaja is a fine and delicate wine that throws a curveball at our expectations of this notoriously hot and dry vintage. The wine is exceedingly generous when it comes to its fruit, especially its blackcurrant and plum, but what steals the show is that elegant mineral note that so seamlessly cedes to spice, licorice and cinnamon. Rabaja is one of the most distinctive growing sites in Barbaresco, thanks to its white stony soils that leave such a strong imprint on its wines. The wine is remarkable for its nicely linear and delicate style, but it ultimately proves its power and determination on the palate over many long minutes.

Tasting notes

Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Rabajà is a full-bodied, fragrant red with great character. With a dark appearance and dense consistency, it has a powerful garnet red color. The nose reveals intense aromas of flowers and ripe berries, in particular strawberry. Its explosive personality is transmitted to the palate in a symphony of spicy, mineral and mentholated notes and an aftertaste of cherry and licorice. Dry, warm and austere. Excellent served with roast meat, game and aged cheeses.

Vintage

Created from a balanced growing season and a summer that was never too hot, a vintage to remember for the quality of the wines produced. Low humidity, no heat spikes and perfectly timed rain resulted in one of the latest harvests in the last few years. The Nebbiolo from this year is full-bodied and fragrant, and the Barolos and Barbarescos are grand wines that will only benefit from extended aging. A classic vintage of old times.
