Description

This Castiglione Falletto vineyard is the smallest geographic area within the Barolo specification and comprises just over 1 hectare. It is the most prestigious part of what was once called La Serra and is nestled between the Villero and the Rocche (rock face) of Castiglione, which represents the best of the top parts; it can be considered a monopole as the whole parcel is the exclusive property of the Ceretto family. The height of the vineyard is optimum, going from 350 to 370 meters above sea level, with southeast to southwest exposure. The earth (sandstone of Diano) reinforce the ideal sense of balance, suggested the geographic location, and see good percentages of sand, silt and clay.

Estate

Among the infinite rows of vines that run across the undulating hills of Piedmont are the four wineries of Ceretto, a wine and spirits company in its third generation. Founded by Riccardo Ceretto in 1937, the highly respected firm is now run by his sons, Bruno and Marcello (dubbed the “Barolo Brothers”) who in the 1960s began raising Ceretto’s profile and expanding its holdings. Now their sons and daughters are at the helm of the Langhe DOC company, which holds a total of 120 hectares of land that are the birthplace of an array of elegant still wines, sparkling wines, dessert wines, and spirits.

Tasting notes

The 2015 Barolo Bricco Rocche is the most delicate and finessed of the four Ceretto 2015 Barolos. All of the signatures that make this Castiglione Falletto site so compelling come through effortlessly. Bright, medium in body and finely sculpted, the 2015 speaks to precision above all else. Like all of these 2015, the Bricco Rocche is embryonic. This Barolo is excellent with roasted and braised red meats; it can be served also with risotto with mushrooms, pasta with ragu and aged cheeses. It’s a wine right for ageing.
