Tasting notes
Purple ruby color, on the nose it displays notes of red berries, blackberry and hints of white pepper; in the mouth it is medium bodied, fresh and velvety with firm yet well integrated tannins.
Description
La Cattura is one of the few Italian reds we've featured whose primary varietal is Teroldego. Normally found in Trentino (Northern Italy) the varietal is finding a new home among the sunny foothills and expanse of vineyards in Tuscany. What we love about Teroldego is the beautiful aromatics, complexity and structure with lower alcohol content (12.5%). It's an expression of organic viticulture. Medium-bodied, fresh, velvety with well-integrated tannins, and 12 months in French oak. We really enjoyed this bottle with chicken parmigiana. In a picture-perfect vintage, this Italian red is a standout for the price!
Since 1903, the Castellani family have been exporting their estate wines from Tuscany. They have changed and evolved over the decades, but throughout the years the philosophy of their work has remained consistent: The quality of the wine begins in the vineyard, as their ancestors used to say. Used primarily as a wine resort by Castellani, the Poggio al Casone vineyard is located on the first hills overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in the municipality of Crespina. Together with the deep and draining soils, sea breezes and intense brightness, this area of Tuscany was particularly attractive to plant Teroldego & Syrah.
