Robert Parker 91
A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Sangiovese, the 2019 San Pio is softly layered with a velvety texture and plenty of dark fruit aromas of plum and blackcurrant. The wine shows medium structure and is approachable overall, especially if paired with a breaded veal steak or meatloaf. It ferments in cement with spontaneous yeasts and ages in French oak for 18 months. Some 16,000 bottles were made.

Estate
Mastrojanni has been writing history with its wines since 1975, collecting awards from all over the world. Today, thanks to an exceptional terroir and men who have believed in it for decades, Mastrojanni has become one of the most respected Montalcino producers. The Mastrojanni winery lies in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the south eastern most corner of Montalcino Municipality, in the Province of Siena. An artistic and architectural heritage, surrounded by the majesty of its natural landscapes and, above all, an area particularly suitable for vine cultivation: the homeland of Brunello.
Tasting notes
San Pio is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. Dark aromas of black cherries and berries, along with herbs, leather, and peppercorn abound. With moderate tannins, this is best enjoyed with rich, meat-based meals, such as roasts or stews. Barrel aged 18 months in French oak tonneau and small barrels.
