Description
A cherished year in Portugal, after the April 1974 Revolution. After a rainy winter, it was a hot and dry year, particularly in the summer.
Some rain at the beginning of September, before the harvest. Overall, it was a year of scarce production.
The grapes were hand harvested and transported to stone lagares where they were manually treaded for optimum extraction of color,
tannins and aromatic compounds. At the end of the harvest, the wine was transferred to 600L casks where it aged until the perfect
moment for bottling was decided.
Tasting notes
Stunning golden color with olive highlights on the rim. This wine conveys an intensely perfumed nose with notes of dried fruits and
sweet figs combined with orange peel and toasted aromas, creating a multidimensional and flabbergasting complexity. The mouth fills
the entire palate with immense volume and power exploding into an exceptionally long and fresh finish despite the 40 years in wooden
casks.
Estate
Maynard’s is the flagship brand of Fernando and Alvaro Van Zeller’s Vinihold’s company. Named after the first established English Port wine shipper in Oporto, the Maynard’s brand honors the story of the late Walter Maynard, born in 1652, an illustrious ancestor of the van Zeller family through his marriage to Dorothea Augusta Kopke, recorded as one of the first traders to ever export Port wine to England. The brand has a premium positioning evident in every detail, from the selection of wines to the final presentation of the product itself, particularities that make all the difference, the paradigm of a unique product with centuries of tradition.
