A deep and brilliant ruby red, one can expect notes of red fruit and cassis with a hint of vanilla. A full-bodied and sumptuous wooded red wine. The perfect complement to a wide range of dishes, in particular red meat, stews and chicken.

Backsberg’s Unorthodox kosher range celebrates the Lithuanian Jewish roots of the Back family. Made under the auspices of the Cape Town Beth Din and the OU of the United States, this wine is Mevushal and Kosher for Passover.

The Merlot and the Cabernet Sauvignon were made separately and blended just prior to bottling. Both varieties went through the Mevushal process prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks. A long skin fermentation with lots of aeration is followed by oak maturation for 12 months in French oak. Pasteurized in the juice stage of production, this wine is prepared under supervision of the Cape Town Beth Din. It is Mevushal and Kosher for Passover.

Father and son team Michael and Simon Back operate one of the oldest and most reputed wineries in the Simonsberg area.
