Dehesa la Granja

THE UNION BETWEEN WINE AND PRODUCE FROM THE LAND

In 1988, the Fernández Rivera family expanded their vision by reviving a three-century-old estate: Dehesa La Granja. Located in Vadillo de Guareña, this site is a true agricultural tapestry where winemaking, livestock, and farming meet.

Here, the family produces more than just wine; they craft cured cheeses, grow chickpeas, and extract premium Extra Virgin olive oil. Yet, the heart of the estate remains the vine, where Tempranillo grapes are grown and aged in American oak, consistent with the family’s high standards.

The soul of Dehesa La Granja lies beneath the surface: a 3,000-square-meter underground cave hand-carved in 1750. This historic labyrinth provides an unparalleled environment for cellaring their noble, intense wines.

This commitment to the land is the hallmark of Familia Fernández Rivera. Recently celebrating 50 years as pioneers of the Ribera del Duero, the legacy started by Alejandro Fernández and Esperanza Rivera now spans 70 countries and four prestigious wineries. Today, led by three generations of women, the family continues to bridge the gap between 18th-century tradition and modern innovation.

El Vinculo

THE UNION OF TWO CASTILES

El Vínculo stands as a tribute to the union of the two Castiles and the legacy of the family's grandparents. Located in the heart of Campo de Criptana, the estate was founded to prove that La Mancha could produce wines of world-class quality.

Notably, El Vínculo marked the family’s first foray into white wines with the creation of Alejairén, a varietal that has become one of the most prestigious and highly valued white wines in the region.

While the estate continues the family tradition of working with Tempranillo, it also highlights the rare Airén grape. These vines are particularly special, sourced from exceptional pre-phylloxera vineyards that yield fruit of extraordinary character and depth.

This spirit of innovation is a hallmark of Familia Fernández Rivera. Recently celebrating 50 years as industry pioneers, the dream of Alejandro Fernández and Esperanza Rivera has expanded into an international benchmark across 70 countries. Today, led by three generations of women, El Vínculo continues to blend artisanal heritage with the bold, entrepreneurial vision that has defined the brand for half a century.

Condado de Haza

THE CHÂTEAU OF THE RIBERA DEL DUERO

Nestled in a vast Tempranillo vineyard in Roa, Burgos, sits Condado de Haza, a Castilian château that pays tribute to the terroir. Built directly into the hillside, the estate features a cellar nearly 30 meters underground, providing the perfect natural conditions for aging.

While the first vines were planted in 1988, the estate has operated as a "360º estate" since 1993, managing the wine's entire life cycle on-site to produce exceptional selections from its heterogeneous soils.

Condado de Haza is committed to 100% organic production. This dedication to craftsmanship earned them a spot on Wine Spectator’s "Top 100 Wines in the World" in 2008 and solidified their status as a regional staple.

This excellence is backed by the legacy of Familia Fernández Rivera, which recently celebrated 50 years as a pioneer of the Ribera del Duero region. What began as the dream of Alejandro Fernández and Esperanza Rivera has grown into an international benchmark, spanning 70 countries with four distinct wineries: Tinto Pesquera, Condado de Haza, Dehesa La Granja, and El Vínculo.

Today, the family business is led by three generations of women. By blending artisanal techniques with modern innovation, they continue to champion the same passion for the land that defined the brand five decades ago.

Viñedos El Pacto

Viñedos El Pacto represents a return to the soul of traditional village wines. In an era defined by the maelstrom of industrialization, these select old vines remain unscathed, preserved by the value of small-scale manual labor and a profound respect for natural viticultural cycles.

This project is a bridge between generations, uniting the past and present of Rioja, specifically within the Sonsierra and the Alto Najerilla, to ensure the future of the region's heritage.

The Sonsierra has long been a sanctuary for vines. Protected by the Sierra del Toloño range from harsh Cantabrian rains, the vineyards benefit from a constant, ventilating airflow that imparts a distinct Atlantic freshness to the grapes. Its southern orientation ensures mild year-round temperatures and significant diurnal shifts, creating the perfect conditions for optimal ripening.

Further south, the Alto Najerilla serves as a hidden treasure trove of century-old vineyards where a single star takes center stage: Garnacha. Here, in the villages of Cárdenas, Badarán, and Nájera, generations of growers have tended the land, producing honest wines that serve as a direct mirror to the rugged landscape.

The El Pacto portfolio is divided into two expressions of the land: Village Wines and Singular Vineyards. El Pacto del Alto Najerilla and El Pacto de la Sonsierra rediscover the authentic essence of these historic viticultural hubs. Riojanda and Valdechuecas are designated as “Viñedos Singulares” by the Ministry of Agriculture. These are extraordinary, unique sites where the terroir is the undisputed protagonist.

In Valdechuecas, we travel back in time to trace the family roots of Rioja’s freshest Garnacha. This wine is the liquid testimony of the Acha family’s enduring love for their land. Located in Cárdenas, these plots have been meticulously maintained since they were planted between 1912 and 1918. In this small, hectare-sized haven, Garnacha, Tempranillo, and rare white varieties coexist with ancient olive, fig, and quince trees, a biodiverse ecosystem that yields less than one kilogram of fruit per vine.

Bardos

Bardos is rooted in the most unforgiving terrain of Ribera del Duero. At an elevation of over 960 meters, only the most resilient vines survive the Páramo, a high plateau defined by blistering, arid summers and interminably severe winters.

This extreme climate naturally restricts the yield of Tinta del País, but it ensures that every cluster that endures possesses the concentrated character necessary to produce the singular wines for which Bardos is known.

Just as the ancient bards sang of heroic deeds to keep them from fading into oblivion, the "wine bards" of this estate are the growers whose wisdom has been inherited over generations. These men and women have spent their lives in the vineyards, and they carry the title of "Bard" with immense pride, honoring the tradition of their ancestors through the wine they craft.

When Bardos was founded, the team faced a pivotal choice: settle in the prestigious Golden Mile alongside the region’s largest wineries, or embrace the challenge of the coldest, highest, and most difficult reaches of the denomination. They chose the harder route, believing that a daring wine could only be born among daring people and places. The result is a collection that strikes a masterful balance between power and finesse, intensity and complexity, four elegant wines defined by fresh acidity and fine, silky tannins.

Bodegas Raíces Ibéricas Las Pizarras

Mark Schiettekat began selling Spanish wine in 1983. Convinced of its potential, he pivoted to the production side of the industry. In 1992, he began working with native Spanish varietals and put down roots in Calatayud, an area he chose for his love of the Garnacha grape, which is native to Aragon.

Twenty years after settling in the region, he revived a local cooperative on the brink of closure and launched Raíces Ibéricas. In doing so, he fulfilled a promise to the community and made his dream a reality.

Calatayud is located in the heart of Aragon, in a valley protected from harsh conditions by surrounding mountain ranges. The tributaries of the Ebro River provide a constant source of water and vital nutrients for the area. Although the rocky substrates are poor in nutrients, they are rich in limestone, allowing the vine roots to slowly but inexorably make their way through cracks and fine fissures.

The landscape of Calatayud is a complex mosaic of plots displaying enormous diversity. Slate soil here can be black, gray, red, or even white. It is a spectacular sight to see how the terrain changes from one plot to another, sometimes with only a few meters of difference between them. Although yields are low, the winery has managed to develop wines with a distinct personality that retain the fruity character and freshness typical of Garnacha.

Bodegas Santiago Ruiz

Known as the “Father of Albariño,” Santiago Ruiz dedicated his life to championing the native varieties of O Rosal. The family’s winemaking roots date back to 1860, a legacy passed from Santiago’s grandfather, Ángel, down to Santiago himself, and now to his daughter, Rosa.

In 1984, after a career elsewhere, Santiago returned to his ancestors' traditions to open his eponymous winery. Today, Rosa Ruiz maintains the brand's character by balancing generational wisdom with modern techniques.

Before the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin even existed, Santiago was already refining the essence of Galician varietals. A tireless advocate for his homeland, he famously traveled across Spain with bottles tucked under his arm, sharing his passion one sample at a time. His dedication helped put the region on the global map, earning him the title of the first true ambassador for Rías Baixas. In honor of his role as a pioneer of Galician viticulture, his name now graces a local street and the winery he founded. To this day, the wine’s label features the iconic hand-drawn map originally created to guide guests to the estate, serving as a permanent nod to the brand’s hospitable, family roots.

Continuing this storied legacy, Rosa Ruiz has launched a signature wine in her name. Crafted from 100% Albariño old vines, it serves as a tribute to the summer afternoons of her childhood spent learning the craft at her father’s side.

Cellers Unio

Founded in 1942 in Reus, Spain, Cellers Unió is a cornerstone of the Catalan wine industry. What began as the Unión de Cooperativas del Campo de la Província de Tarragona has evolved into a powerhouse marketing cooperative representing over 20,000 grower families.

For over eight decades, its history has mirrored the evolution of winemaking in southern Catalonia, bridging the gap between small-scale farming and the global market.

Cellers Unió has been a pivotal player in the formalization of Spanish wine regions’ history. It bottled its first DOQ Priorat wine shortly after the region’s legal creation in the 50’s. In the 1970’s it expanded into internation markets, launching its first DO Tarragona wines. In the early 2000’s it actively participated in the founding of the DO Montsant and in 2008 it introduced its first certified organic wines, signaling a shift towards sustainable viticulture.

Today, Cellers Unió serves as an umbrella for 186 smaller cooperatives, managing a vast 4,400 hectares of vineyards across Catalonia and Mallorca. Their reach spans one DOQ (Priorat) and five DOs (Montsant, Terra Alta, Tarragona, Catalunya, and Binissalem).

The cooperative’s mission extends beyond production; it is dedicated to "dignifying" agricultural work. By providing technical, logistical, and legal support to its thousands of members, Unió ensures that traditional Mediterranean farming remains viable and that the land is preserved through sustainable practices for future generations.

The cooperative’s dedicated facility in the DO Montsant is located in the village of Els Guiamets. Here, the focus is on crafting approachable, fruit-forward wines that serve as a genuine reflection of the terroir. A primary highlight of this region is the Perlat range, a pioneering brand that helped define the identity of the DO Montsant since its inception.

Through innovation and a commitment to quality, Cellers Unió now exports more than 25 different brands to over 30 countries, proving that high-volume cooperation and high-quality terroir can go hand in hand.

Bodegas Sierra Norte Fuentesca

The 67-hectare Finca Fuenteseca estate is situated in Utiel-Requena, a rugged plateau nearly 1,000 meters above sea level just inland from Valencia. This extreme environment, defined by hot, dry summers, cool nights, and nutrient-poor limestone soils, is naturally resistant to vine diseases, making it the ideal setting for organic viticulture.

Today, the entire estate is dedicated to organic production, specializing in distinctive blends that marry indigenous Mediterranean varieties with celebrated international grapes.

Beyond its certified organic and vegan credentials, Bodega Sierra Norte Fuenteseca is deeply committed to its local ecosystem. The winery actively supports regional D.O. projects that benefit the local community and defend the heritage of the land. On the environmental front, Sierra Norte is at the forefront of sustainable innovation, developing a wastewater treatment system for water reuse and implementing a comprehensive photovoltaic solar panel installation to power their operations.

The label serves as a tribute to the Fuenteseca de Camporrobles vineyard. The illustration highlights the estate’s iconic centennial pine tree, a historic landmark that the winery has meticulously conserved in the center of the plot as a symbol of their connection to the land.

With an 18-year history, Fuenteseca is one of Sierra Norte’s most established brands, now exported to 18 countries including Germany, Japan, and the United States. The recent 2021 vintage marks a visual renewal for the brand, introducing young wines that share a common DNA: an intense, fine aromatic profile where the fruit takes center stage, a refreshing palate, and an exquisite uniqueness.
