Tasting notes
Deeply concentrated yet focused, with highlights of tobacco, mocha, and blackberry in the nose. This vintage is broad and rich with a soft opening of savory blackberry, red currant, fresh herb, and chocolate flavors. More elegant in style compared to previous vintages and more approachable. The generous use of new French oak marries perfectly with the ripe fruit and leads to a finish showing vanilla and toasty caramel.
Yoeman Vineyard Plus
Goldschmidt Yoeman Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a small mountain vineyard just east of the town of Geyserville. The vineyard slopes to the southeast and is comprised of well-draining glacial loam. Soft morning sun promotes slower grape maturation and longer hang times in this secluded micro-climate. Rarely do vineyard conditions afford a winemaker the opportunity to make a wine such as this.
Using techniques learned over time, Nick Goldschmidt selected four barrels of wine from the 2010 vintage that he felt were exceptional. From a thin slice of an already exceptional vineyard, drained over a period of two days and aged twice in new barrels, the final result is a wine that exceeds the quality of the vintage. The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new Taransaud Medium-Plus Allier for 24 months, then gravity racked into a second, new Taransaud barrel for an additional 19 months. The wine was then hand bottled directly from the barrels, unfined and unfiltered. Only 194 six-packs of this wine were produced.
