Ziobaffa
Organic, Non-GMO, Sustainable and Vegan. Under the guidance of vintner Castellani, ZIOBAFFA™ wine is crafted in a zero-waste facility located in the heart of Tuscany. From California, Baffa works closely with Castellani to manage the operations. Their collective focus is to bring the world affordable, high-quality Italian wines that are produced with an eco-minded awareness. Call it an Italian-Californian collaboration or maybe just a modern twist on an old tradition.
Filmmaker Jason Baffa has been fortunate enough to travel the globe with his friends and a film-camera creating moving pictures about their love for surfing. The films, "Singlefin: yellow," "One California Day" and the newly released and award winning, "Bella Vita," (all on iTunes) embrace the inspired life of the care-free surfing sub-culture.
During a trip through Italy with surfer-environmentalist, Chris Del Moro and fifth generation winemaker, Piergiorgio Castellani, Baffa’s passion for good food, thirst-quenching libation and a few late-night practical jokes, inspired the local crew of surfers to nick-name him, Zio Baffa (Uncle Baffa).
Making "Bella Vita" was a journey of discovery for Del Moro, Castellani and Baffa. Now with the film complete, the three friends have joined together for a new adventure. It is in the spirit of Zio Baffa (that somewhat off-beat fun-loving Uncle we all may have), and our combined love of surf, travel, organic food, family and wine, that we bring to you some of our favorite things to enjoy.
Castellani and ZIOBAFFA have made conscious efforts to infuse our products with an ethos of quality & sustainability. 100% of energy used in manufacturing is from renewable resources and NDV certified with a "zero waste" program, recycling all possible waste and purifying polluted water. Additionally, our ZIOBAFFA bottles utilize recycled glass in their creation. 100% of the paper we use for our label is FSC (The Forest Stewardship Council) certified and is produced from raw material obtained through sustainable farming practices. The labels are printed with non-toxic ink and affixed using bio-friendly, non-toxic glue.
The revolutionary new HELIX™ cork closure used for the Ziobaffa wines embraces technology to create a bio-friendly re-usable seal. Helix cork and bottle that are designed so that the cork can be removed with a simple twist of the wrist, no corkscrew required. The Helix “twist to open” system consists of an ergonomically designed cork stopper and a glass bottle with an internal thread finish in the neck. Instead of requiring a corkscrew, it opens like a screw-top bottle, though with the addition of a pleasant “pop.” It is also resealable as easily as it opens. This seal more elegant and effective than aluminum screw caps. Moreover, cork production preserves biodiversity and is generally regarded as a highly sustainable crop due to the fact that the entire cork tree is not harvested; merely its bark. The tree continues to live and grow. The sustainability of production and the easy recycling of cork products and by-products are two of its most distinctive aspects.
