Peacock is a family owned, single vineyard estate produced in the Breede River Valley of South Africa. The Peacock collection pays tribute to the magnificent, mysterious, and most beautiful birds ever. A great wine requires deep, intense dedication to the land, empathy for the vine and a love of grapes. Thus, our winemakers have sourced grapes from the best family own single vineyards. They have selected the most popular wine varieties and crafted the Peacock collection with passion, demand and respect to offer you a complete range of complex, delicious and elegant wines.
South African wines offer impressively good value, and feature styles and tastes that are food friendly, blending elegance and power. South Africa has been producing wine since the first vines were planted in the 17th century, brought by the Dutch governors of Cape Colony. A range of wine styles are made, from full bodied Chardonnay and crisp, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc.
The Breede River Valley is relatively broad and flat for a Western Cape valley, averaging at a floor height of 80m-250m above sea-level. Western regions are mostly alluvial and flat, while eastern regions have more hills of the Bokkeveld Group with narrow alluvial deposits. The valley is framed by the high mountains of the Cape Fold Belt, with the Hex River Mountains and the Skurweberge to the northwest, the Langeberg Mountains (up to 2000m) to the north, the smaller Boland Mountains to the southwest, and the Riviersonderend Mountains to the south. It stretches from Tulbagh in the north to McGregor in the south and Rawsonville in the west to Ashton and Bonnievale in the east. Its namesake, the Breede River, flows through the broad valley as a consequent stream.
