Tasting notes
Château Bel-Air features a rich and complex bouquet expressing aromas of red fruits, as well as notes of leather and undergrowth. Fleshy, balanced, and harmonious on the palate, with velvety tannins of ripe fruit that evolve into a long and persistent finish. This classic Pomerol is delicious now but will age and develop nicely over the next several years.
Description
Pomerol is a prestigious appellation on the Right Bank of Bordeaux and is home to Château Bel-Air. The 32 acres of Merlot vines benefit from sandy gravel soils and a subsoil of green clay and iron oxide, typical from this appellation. Château Bel-Air has belonged to the Sudrat-Melet family since 1914. It is passed down from generation to generation and is now managed by Mrs. Melet and her daughter Véronique, also owners of Château Beausejour in the Fronsac appellation.
Vinification
The farming in the vineyard is completely traditional with the practice of tilling and harvesting by hand. The fermentation is made in temperature-controlled tanks after a plot selection. The wine is aged in barrels for 12 to 18 months depending on the vintage. The Sudrat-Melet family also benefits from their partnership with the famed winemakers from Derenoncourt Consultants.
