Tasting notes
Quite vividly colored, it is often dark crimson with purplish highlights. The nose is dominated by small red fruits (raspberry, Morello cherry) and black fruits (blackberry) set off by notes of licorice and underbrush. With age it evolves towards strawberry preserves and gingerbread with animal and leather notes. It is well-built with noticeably elegant tannins. Its well-rounded structure leaves an aftertaste of fruit on the palate. Handpicked harvest. Traditional fermentation in oak barrels (30% new casks). Maturation during 12-14 months in cellar for ageing, stored in barrels.
Description
Located north of Beaune, this "climat" is characterized by a stony, sandy and very filtering soil. These beautiful grapes, always very precocious and well ripened, provide a fruity and incomparable wine accompanied by very soft tannins. The wine is fine, tender and dense all at the same time, with very expressive aromas of red fruit. The "climat" is an ancient estate once belonging to the Burgundy dukes, annexed by king Louis XI after the death of Charles le Téméraire.
Estate
Founded in 1885, Domaine Roux is currently operated by the 4th and 5th generation of the Roux family. With vineyard holdings throughout the Côte d'Or, the Domaine is situated in the Saint Aubin village of the Côte de Beaune. This historic property maintains one of the most incredible libraries of older vintages. No one in Burgundy has such an impressive collection of verticals from such a diverse array of villages, single vineyards and Premier Cru wines.
