Description
After regualtions were imposed forcing Friuli producers to no longer use the name 'Tocai' (long held, local name for Friulano), Le Vigne di Zamò now produces "No Name" as it's replacement! What's in a name, anyway?
Estate
Le Vigne di Zamò (the Vines of Zamò) and its picturesque Abbazia di Rosazzo (Rosazzo Abbey) are considered by many to be the pinnacle of Friulian winemaking. The estate dates back to 1924 and the family has been hand crafting wine in Italy’s’ Northeastern region of Friuli ever since, they are true icons of Italian viticulture. The winery is also now a substantial operation with a gleaming new winery. The dedicated team crafts an array of world class wines from indigenous grapes as well as international varietals.
Tasting notes
The noses shows pretty fruity and floreal notes, typical of the Friuliano from Rosazzo. Intense citrus fruits, orange skin and sweet almond. Salty and mineral notes nicely combine in the finish with intense hints of custard and almond paste. Very fresh and ample in the mouth, the perception of sweet almond and cream is clearly detectable, the finish has great balanced acidity.
Vinification
Produced from 100% Friulano harvested by hand in small baskets, the first week of September. Destemmed and pressed in an inert gas atmosphere (N2). The must sees spontaneous clarification in stainless steel for one night. Alcoholic fermentation follows lasting 15 days. Remains on the lees for 6 months with weekly bâtonnage.
