Description

A wet winter with a cold and dry March. The mild April temperatures were ideal for flowering. Spring and summer were calm and stable. It rained in late August and early September. Harvest started in mid-September and was marked by good weather throughout the harvesting season. The grapes were harvested by hand and transported to stone presses where they were manually treaded for optimum extraction of color, tannins and aromatic compounds. At the end of the harvest, the wine was transferred to 600L casks where it aged until the perfect moment for bottling was decided.

Estate

Maynard’s is the flagship brand of Fernando and Alvaro Van Zeller’s Vinihold’s company. Named after the first established English Port wine shipper in Oporto, the Maynard’s brand honors the story of the late Walter Maynard, born in 1652, an illustrious ancestor of the van Zeller family through his marriage to Dorothea Augusta Kopke, recorded as one of the first traders to ever export Port wine to England. The brand has a premium positioning evident in every detail, from the selection of wines to the final presentation of the product itself, particularities that make all the difference, the paradigm of a unique product with centuries of tradition.

Tasting notes

Deep amber color with a greenish-brown rim from the extensive time spent in wooden casks. On the nose it reveals seductive aromas of caramel, dried fruits, especially hazelnuts, and smoky. On the palate velvety and soft texture with complex structure and notes of caramel and chocolate. Round, creamy and sensual. A unique combination with an unquestionably long and aromatic finish.
