Description

After years in Ribera del Duero, in 2013 the Moro family fell in love with the Godello variety and the region of El Bierzo. Three years later, in 2016, Bodegas Emilio Moro settled in El Bierzo determined to popularize the Godello variety and firmly commit to a winegrowing region that was in a state of growth. Today, the project boasts 3 leading wines on the market and 60 hectares of dedicated vineyards. The Bierzo region is characterized by its terraces and their steepness and varying altitude, which ranges from 450 to 1,000 meters above sea level. These characteristics all give rise to the aromatic profile and peculiarities of the Godello grape. The upper part of the mountain is pure granite, and the entire lower level is the result of an accumulation of sedimentary layers with a lot of diversity. Within the parcels it is very characteristic to find the presence of coarse elements, mainly of granitic origin, and some slate. These pieces fall and accumulate over millions of years, resulting in the soils of El Bierzo.

Estate

Bodegas Emilio Moro is one of the oldest leading quality producers in Ribera del Duero. For four generations the Emilio Moro family has carefully farmed their 500 acres of estate vineyards located between 2,400 to 3,000 feet of elevation. The estates legendary Finca Resalso vineyard was planted the year Emilio Moro was born in 1932. The vineyards deep, cool soil is home to some of the winery’s oldest Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) bush vines and is the birthplace of their great single-estate wine Malleolus de Valderramiro. With excellent ripening conditions, these special plots provide tannic wines with a marked acidity and are ideal for ageing.

Tasting notes

Straw yellow in color, on the nose it surprises with its expressiveness and complexity, with notes of white fruits characteristic of the godello grape, nuanced by time and its passage through wood, it is joined by aniseed nuances of dried flowers and a minerality typical of the great vintages. On the palate, the integration of the natural acidity of the godello grape with the smoothness provided by the lees is noticable, resulting in a harmonious wine that is easy to drink and has a very pleasant aftertaste.
